FOSS4G North America 2012

Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conferences showcase powerful tools for building mapping systems and analyzing geospatial data. FOSS4G North America will be held from April 10 to 12, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC. In the heart of Washington DC, this year’s North American event brings together developers, users, and executives who are building, deploying, and evaluating open source for innovative applications across government and industry.

FOSS4G conferences highlight the latest and greatest projects from the Open Source Geospatial foundation OSGeo.  This year’s program targets a range of interests with the following tracks:

• Technology & Tips Track: Learn about the latest open source software from the developers and power users themselves. What are the new features? How do you get the best performance? How do you configure for the best results? For power users, deployers, system integrators and developers!
• Deployment & Decisions Track: Learn who is using open source geospatial software, and what their experiences have been. What kinds of organizations are deploying? What scale are their systems? What were the business drivers behind their plans? For managers, project leads, consultants, and other decision makers!
• Ideas & Trends Track: Where the latest tastes meet and mingle! Open data and crowd-sourcing, balloon photography, personal sensor packages and hardware hacking. For everyone with an itch to scratch!

Over 900 international attendees came together for FOSS4G 2011 in Denver. The event fostered new ideas and enthusiasm to build great things. Join us in Washington, DC this spring to make magic again!

The Venue

FOSS4G-NA will be held from April 10 to 12, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC. About Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is a wonderful city to live in, visit and explore. Most of all, it is known as a place where decisions are made. FOSS4G-NA will bring together a diverse group of open source decision makers, users and developers from academia, industry and the government.  A diverse group of open source advocates and users call Washington DC home and will be well represented at the conference. More over, government agencies have been rapidly adopting open source solutions in favor of their proprietary counterparts. Many of these agencies, such as the FCC, NGA,  NOAA, USGS will be well represented at FOSS4G-NA.

We hope you take the opportunity to enjoy what the city has to offer during FOSS4G-NA.  So when you’re not busy at the conference take a walk down the mall, visit a museum, check out the cherry blossom festival and most of all, enjoy DC.
